A Garden Grove man was killed Wednesday morning in a traffic
collision between a motorcycle and an SUV on North Coast Highway.
Aron Negron, 19, was pronounced dead at the site of the crash.
A bystander reported the collision, which occurred on North Coast
Highway at Emerald Bay at 11:29 a.m.
Police are still investigating the exact cause of the collision.
The motorcyclist was riding north on Coast Highway on a Suzuki Cafe
Racer when he was struck by a Toyota Land Cruiser driven by
72-year-old Laguna Beach resident Shirley June Laderman, according to
early reports.
Laderman’s SUV reportedly struck the motorcyclist while she was
attempting a left-hand turn out of the main gate at the Emerald Bay
neighborhood.
Laderman was “distraught” at the scene, Sgt. Eric Lee said.
Because the extent of the victim’s injuries was so severe, no
efforts were made to offer treatment to the motorcyclist.
“It was an unfortunate accident,” Fire Battalion Chief Jeff
Latendresse said. “We got here, and there was unfortunately nothing
we could do.”
Laguna authorities dispatched four police units and two fire
engines to the location. Additional emergency personnel were sent
later to assist with traffic control and the investigation.
Laguna officials were assisted by an ambulance from a private
company, Pacific Ambulance Service, which happened to drive past the
seen and stopped. An engine from the Orange County Fire Authority’s
Emerald Bay station was also at the sene.
Officials limited traffic on Coast Highway near the collision to
one lane in each direction.
Alcohol was not reported as a factor in the collision, Lee said.
