Sharp Shooters open season with win over Dragons

The Sharp Shooters were on the mark Monday during the opening day of
the Smythe Division winter season, especially Jeremy McHenry.
McHenry netted six goals and assisted another score to lead the
way in a 9-6 victory over the Dragons at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey
Center in Huntington Beach.
Chad Loughran opened the scoring for the Sharp Shooters in the
opening quarter. McHenry then scored five of the next six goals for
his team.
Justin Williams scored twice, and McHenry’s sixth and final goal
closed out the scoring for the Sharp Shooters.
Williams also had two assists and Bryce King and Cheyne Taylor
each had one.
Joshua Ishizaki scored three consecutive goals and led the Dragons
in scoring.
Tyler Leamer and Aaron Baca-Chavez each scored once with an assist
and Garrett Cook scored once.
In other Smythe openers:
Renegades 2, Vipers 1
Jacob Sabraw had a goal and an assist to lead the Renegades.
Krist Biakanja scored the decisive goal in the third period and
Avi Press recorded 17 saves.
Tristan DeBoom scored unassisted for the Vipers and Zachary Beko
had 16 saves.
Hurricanes 4, Matrix Reloaded 1
Brandon Jones and the Hurricanes’ defense shut down Matrix
Reloaded after yielding a first quarter goal to Sean Mastro.
Matthew Ostovarpour scored twice with an assist to lead the
Hurricanes on offense.
Tyler O’Donnell had 18 saves for Matrix Reloaded.
Blackhawks 5, Crusaders 1
Steve Brandenberg’s two goals and assist paced a Blackhawks attack
that saw Josh Barut and Eric Epperson each score once with an assist,
Connor Culhane score once and Nolan Smith get an assist.
Chas Plimpton finished with 17 saves.
Michael Thomas scored for the Crusaders and Jacob Otis had 23
saves.
In a Mite Division opener:
HB Vipers 9, OCB 93 7
Zachary Beko and Garrett Blackwell scored in overtime to lift the
HB Vipers to victory.
Beko and Blackwell each finished the match with a team-high three
goals. William Alberto scored twice and Tyler O’Donnell scored once.
O’Donnell and Eric Newfield each recorded two assists and Alberto
and J.J. Milikan each had one assist.
