Anonymous tip leads to burglary suspect
Police are investigating a suspect in a residential burglary after
finding a stolen item while responding to an unrelated call.
At 6:58 p.m. Sunday evening, Laguna resident Michael Reynolds,
after returning from a weeklong vacation, reported his house in the
200 block of Fairview Road had been burglarized. Items reported
stolen from Reynolds home were valued at about $2,600, and included a
laptop computer, champaign and credit cards.
A Chevron credit card turned up after police received an anonymous
tip that a man in a hotel in the 900 block of North Coast Highway was
having sex with a minor. When police arrived, they searched the man,
a 21-year-old Laguna Beach resident and found a legal knife and a
Chevron card identified as being stolen from the Reynolds’ residence.
No arrest was made, but the man is being investigated on suspicion of
receiving stolen property or committing the burglary.
Police did not confirm the caller’s allegation that illicit sex
had occurred.
“We don’t know if that did or did not happen,” said Sgt. Darin
Lenyi.
Carrie Reynolds, Michael’s wife, said she felt discouraged no
arrest was made after the man was found with her credit card.
“I don’t think I’m going to get my stuff back,” she said, adding,
“I still feel at risk.”
Teen reported missing twice
A local teen has been reported missing twice in one week.
At 6:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, the teen’s mother filed a missing
person’s report on her 15-year-old son, who suffers from short term
memory loss as a result of a skateboarding accident.
The teen, who did not return home the day before, after being
dropped off at Laguna Beach High School, eventually returned home,
but was reported missing again on Tuesday by his father, who lives in
Newport Beach.
