Police search for driver who fired gun
Costa Mesa police are looking for a man who they say fired several
rounds from a handgun after what seemed to have been an incident of
road rage early Sunday morning, officials said.
At about 2:30 a.m. both vehicles that were reportedly involved in
the incident were headed south on Harbor Boulevard, said Lt. Dale
Birney.
“Suddenly, near a Jack in the Box restaurant, something took place
between the people in the two cars,” he said. “One of the vehicles
started following the other.”
When the car in front turned on to Peterson Place, the driver of
the car following it slammed against it causing the car in front to
hit two other parked vehicles, Birney said.
“Then one person got out of the car that was following and fired
several rounds from a handgun,” he said.
No one was injured during the incident.
The man then got back in his car and drove away, Birney said. He
said detectives believe there was more than one person in both cars.
The incident does not seem to be gang related, Birney said.
The shooter’s vehicle was described only as a white or silver
sedan, he said.
