All-America team honors for Dominelli

Sophomore free safety Nick Dominelli became the first Orange Coast
College football player in three years to be named to the JC
Grid-Wire Junior College All-America team when founder Hank Ives made
the announcement Tuesday night.
Dominelli earned honorable mention on the team after leading the
Pirates in tackles (110) for the second straight season. The two-time
All-Mission Conference selection also tallied five interceptions,
eight pass breakups, one fumble recovery and one touchdown this fall.
He was the Pirates’ leading point-getter based on the coaching
staff’s weekly grading system, twice earning player of the week
honors.
Dominelli scored three touchdowns in his two-year Coast career. In
2002 he returned a fumble 50 yards to go with a 95-yard interception
return in a win against Golden West and added a 14-yard interception
return this season against Fullerton.
Tight end Ben Fredrickson and linebacker Martin Janzon were each
named to the All-America team in 2000. The Pirates have had 28
players honored dating back to 1963, when five Bucs off the national
championship team received the accolades.
