Vista View leads pack

Vista View Middle School became the top dog for the 2003 Ocean View
School District cross country season during the season finale at
Huntington Beach Central Park.
Vista View and Marine View each won two divisions but Vista View
finished with an overall score of 131 -- Marine View scored 207 -- to
win the overall title.
Vista View seventh-grade girls’ began the meet on the 1 1/2 mile
course by sweeping the first three spots.
Dawn Hatfield won the race in 8:36 and was followed by teammates
Vanessa Calderon (9:00) and Elvi Delgado (9:06).
Marine View’s Brittany Irvin just missed claiming a trophy as she
finished a second out of third-place.
In the boys’ seventh-grade competition, Spring View’s Francisco
Talavera capped an undefeated season by winning the race in 7:52.
Second-place went to Marine View’s Raul Robles at 8:33 and Vista
View’s Pablo Oratan ran an 8:35, good for third-place.
Marine View won the seventh-grade boys’ division by edging Vista
View in points, 35-30.
Mesa View’s Katie Welch also capped an undefeated season by
winning the girls’ eighth-grade race in 9:06. Marine View’s Shelby
Stanfield was second at 9:13 and last year’s girls’ seventh-grade
champion, Clarissa Holz of Spring View, ran a 9:14.
Marine View claimed the eighth-grade girls’ crown by getting past
Vista View in total points, 43-50.
Marine View’s Celso Arcos won the boys’ eighth-grade competition
and Vista View’s Raul Torres and Jonny Braun claimed second- and
third-place, respectively, although each finished the race in 7:49.
Mesa View’s Greg Baca trimmed 30 seconds off his previous best
time and finished in fourth-place.
Vista View won the boys’ eighth-grade division by outdistancing
Mesa View, 26-40, and in the process avenged a regular season dual
meet defeat to the Eagles.
In the sixth-grade girls’ race, Vista View’s Brianna Wilson won in
9:22 and was followed by Spring View’s Alexis Grieve (9:25), Vista
View’s Justina Ibach (9:43) and Mesa View’s Kelly Mitsumori (9:53).
Mesa View’s Gabriel Rodriguez won the boys’ sixth-grade event in
8:45. Second-place went to Rodrigo Rodriguez, Marine View’s Trevor
Dunbar was third and Mesa View’s Evan Kane was fourth.
