June Casagrande
Steven Rosansky is the new City Councilman for District 2.
He won the support of four of the six council members except John
Heffernan who voted for David Goff and Dick Nichols who voted Dennis
Lahey.
Rosansky is a commissioner on the Parks, Beaches and Recreation
Commission, who is also a restaurateur and a real estate
professional.
During his interview with the City Council Tuesday night, Rosansky
listed the General Plan amendment , traffic and water quality as
issues crucial to the city.
“The General Plan amendment is going to be an important road map
for the city,” Rosansky said.
In response to council members’ questions, Rosansky said that he
had opposed the Greenlight Initiative in 2000.
“Long range it will certainly have somewhat of a chilling effect
on the city,” he said.
Rosansky also said he opposes extending the boardwalk on the beach
in West Newport, supports creating a 19th Street bridge and applauded
the city’s efforts during the last Fourth of July.
Rosansky said he plans to run for re-election when his term ends
in 2004.
Council members praised all six applicants and thanked them for
their time and interest.
“They’re all qualified in their own way,” Councilman Tod Ridgeway
said. “In my mind you all did extremely well.”
Rosansky’s term begins immediately.
