Vegas cops pop Rodman on DUI

West Newport resident and former NBA star Dennis Rodman was

treated for cuts on his legs and slapped with a DUI on Sunday morning

after he hit a pole while trying to pop wheelies on a borrowed

motorbike outside a Las Vegas strip club, officials said.

The 42-year-old former ace rebounder borrowed the bike from an

employee at the club, Las Vegas Police Officer Jose Montoya said.

“He was thrown off the bike when he collided with the pole,” he

said.

Rodman was transported in an ambulance to University Medical

Center where he was treated and released, Montoya said. Rodman is

scheduled to appear in court anywhere between four and six weeks, he

said.

He was not arrested, but was issued the misdemeanor citation,

Montoya said.

“We’ve taken a blood sample from him to determine the blood

alcohol level,” he said.

The test results should be out in about two weeks, Montoya said.

In September, Orange County sheriff’s deputies arrested Rodman

near the Cannery Restaurant on suspicion of being drunk in public

after getting complaints that he was seen driving his 47-foot

Fountain powerboat Sexual Chocolate under the influence of alcohol.

Officer honored for DUI arrest record

Mothers Against Drunk Driving presented Costa Mesa Police Officer

Gerry Stukkie at last night’s City Council meeting with the Deuce

Award for arresting more than 80 people in the last year on suspicion

of drunk driving.

He received a pin and a plaque. This year, seven out of 14

officers countywide who made more than 100 DUI-related arrests are

from Costa Mesa, said Lt. Karl Schuler, who is the state chair for

MADD.

“Last year, all eight of our officers who were on DUI enforcement

made more than 100 arrests,” he said.

Arraignment continued

Arraignment was continued from Monday to Oct. 31 for Kevin Duane

Carpenter, the 41-year-old man accused of binding and gagging a Dover

Shores woman and setting her house on fire.

Carpenter has been charged with 11 counts. Prosecutors are

accusing him of attempted murder, arson, kidnapping, burglary,

assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats.

Carpenter eluded police for about 16 hours on Thursday. Police

scoured the bluffs and the Back Bay and finally arrested him early

Friday morning at a Costa Mesa motel in the 2200 block of Newport

Boulevard.

Investigators are still looking into a motive for the incident,

officials said.
