Horn plays winning tune
Newport Harbor High junior Kayleigh Horn birdied the first hole and
went on to shoot 3-over-par 39 to earn medalist honors and lead the
Sailors to a 227-245 Sea View League girls golf win over Laguna Hills
Monday at Laguna Woods Golf Club.
It was Horn’s best round of the season, Newport Coach Marianne
Towersey said.
Natalie Draganza (41), Katie McKay (45), Jennifer Ryder (50) and
Ashley Jacobs (52) also scored for the Sailors, who improved to 5-10,
1-4 in league.
Laguna Hills fell to 2-3 in league.
Lions stay in second
* SOCCER: Vanguard University’s men’s soccer team maintained its
grasp on second place in the Golden State Athletic Conference with a
1-1 tie against California Baptist Monday.
The Lions (12-4-1, 5-1-1 in conference) remained a game ahead of
the Lancers (8-5-1, 4-2-1) thanks to Nathaniel Kramer’s second goal
of the season. The goal in the 35th minute, assisted by Matt Hess,
evened the score after an early Cal Baptist goal.
The teams played through two overtime periods without another
goal. Tommaso Bianchi came up with five saves for the Lions.
Vanguard will meet first-place Fresno Pacific University Thursday,
in Fresno.
