Smoke closes JWA terminal briefly
Terminal B at John Wayne Airport was closed briefly Sunday after
smoke was reported in United Airlines’ section.
The smoke began at 12:05 p.m. in the computer room area, said
Justin McCusker, public information officer at the airport. McCusker
said that it was a piece of machinery that had gotten hot and had
begun to smoke. The terminal was reopened at 12:45 p.m., McCusker
said.
The fire was electrical, said Captain Stephen Miller, public
inquiry officer for the Orange County Fire Authority.
An extinguishing agent from an automatic system eliminated the
smoke quickly, Miller said.
The exact amount of damage caused by the machinery or the smoke
was not known at the time the incident was reported.
