Board candidates set goals for festival
The Coastline Pilot talked this week to the seven candidates seeking
three openings on the Festival of Arts Board of Directors about their
goals and qualifications.
The roughly 3,000 festival members living in Orange County can
begin mailing in their ballots on Monday and will have the entire
month of October to submit their votes. The 4,000 members living
outside the county can’t vote.
Votes will be counted at the festival board’s Nov. 12 meeting, and
an announcement of the winners will be made later that day.
Candidates can be present while votes are being tabulated.
Terms on the festival board last three years, with three of the
nine spots opening each year. One incumbent, Scott Moore, elected not
to run again this year, leaving current President Bruce Rasner and
longtime member David Young vying with five others for the three open
seats.
An eighth candidate, John Barber, will be on the ballot, but he’s
announced his lack of interest in winning. He withdrew from the race
but not until after the filing period, so his name couldn’t be
removed from the ballot according to festival bylaws.
