Jr. Clinic Seahawks stun La Mirada

Korey Cablay returned an interception 67 yards for a touchdown with

less than two minutes to play to give the Newport-Mesa Junior Clinic

(7-8-year-olds) Seahawks a 19-13 victory over La Mirada in

Newport-Mesa Junior All- American Football action Sept. 13.

The Seahawks began the scoring early when J.C. Genova returned the

opening kickoff for a TD. Jeff Carlyle then scampered 55 yards to

paydirt, assisted by blocking from Cablay, James Christian and Rocky

Feinberg. Christian made a touchdown-saving tackle with less than 30

seconds to play to preserve the victory.

Captains Aaron Crosby and Levi Stillman led the Seahawks.

Linebacker Josh Rivera and defensive end Taro Doone both turned in

strong performances along with Feinberg, Garret Farthing, Chris

Johnstone, Colbe Koste and Daniel Albert. Albert was strong at

running back and defense.

Feinberg and Koste combined for 13 tackles while Rivera had seven

solos. Tyler Rios knocked the Matador quarterback for a 3-yard loss.

Genova, the game’s Most Valuable Player, Stillman and Crosby took

turns at quarterback while Carlyle and Cablay ran well at tailback.

Doone, Christian, Feinberg, Rivera, Farthing and Johnstone opened

holes on the offensive line.

Christian added strong kicking while Stephen Keenan, Levi Swoger,

Marquise Broussard, Kyle Benter, Cameron Davis, James Barrett and Nic

Landstrom aided the effort.

In Clinic (8-10-year-olds) action:

* South Gate Rams 26, Seahawks 0:

The Seahawks limited the Rams to one touchdown in the second half

with defense from Matt Carlyle, Steven Vayda, Park Eddy and Blair

Luchs.

Mario Rosales and Trent Anderson opened some holes on the

offensive line.

Jack Kanen, Ian Klug, Jake Hall, Justice Gildart, Kaden Stark,

Michael Hyden, Zack Beaudine, Jeffrey Condino, Joseph Scrivner,

Hunter Molnar, John Barton and Louis Sheldon all played well.

In Jr. Pee Wee (9-11-year-olds) play:

* Irvine Chargers 16, Seahawks 0:

The Seahawks had to forfeit, but played the game anyway.

The Seahawks’ defense tallied four sacks and six tackles for a

loss after the Chargers scored a touchdown on their opening drive.

T.J. Danner, Josh Starnes and Chandler Mitchell led the defensive

effort, which also included an interception by Alex Hilton.

Reid Wallace and running back Blake Burkhart led the Seahawks’

offense. Stephen Sheldon replaced Wallace, who was sidelined with an

injury, in the second half and led a strong unit.

A late Charger interception thwarted another Seahawk drive.
