Laguna Soccer Club boys’ under-13 team wins opener

The Laguna Beach Soccer Club boys’ under-13 team opened its 2003 fall

season on a winning note by defeating a solid San Juan Capistrano

squad by a 4-2 count in San Juan Capistrano.

Laguna led from the outset as Nikko Okimoto-Cohen scored in the

23rd minute of the match.

The teams were tied 1-1 late in the second half when Okimoto-Cohen

posted his second goal, this one on a header that gave Laguna a 2-1

lead at the break.

The teams battled in a strong wind in the second half but Laguna

upped its lead to 3-1 when Cain Fair started a dive at mid-field that

ended in Tommy Hopper’s goal.

San Juan scored on an off-sides call against Laguna to narrow the

gap to 2-1, but Hopper’s second goal of the match put the game away.
