The Marina High boys’ water polo team concluded its summer season by
earning a fourth-place finish in the 18-and-under Division of the
35th annual Hawaiian Invitational Water Polo Tournament.
The six-day tournament was played at Punahou High and the
University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
The Vikings began the tournament by winning their bracket. They
went on to finish first in qualifying round play but lost a one-goal
decision to Stanford Club.
The tournament’s top teams advanced to the final four, where
Marina finished fourth.
The Vikings went 6-2 overall, each loss coming by one goal.
Marina begins its 2003 prep season on Tuesday.
The Vikings return its entire roster from a 2002 season that saw
them win the Sunset League championship.
Among those returners is senior Rory Kelly, the Sunset’s reining
MVP.
“Morale is at an all-time high,” Marina Coach Mike Wanmer said.
“This should be an excellent year.”
Members of the Marina boys’ water polo team includes seniors
Kelly, Reid Honrath, Nick Hogue, Michael Pacheco, John Beckman and
Patrick Muschetto, juniors Scotty Parker, Jared Luth, Ryan Wagner,
Andy Mackey and Nathan Davidson, sophomores Chase Parlee and Chad
Kelleher and assistant coach Jim Parker.
