GREER WYLDER
For more than a hundred years, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s staff
of historians, designers and master craftspeople choose pieces from
the museum’s collections to reproduce for everyone to appreciate, and
to help support its collections and programs.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store’s items represent more than
5,000 years of culture from special exhibitions and its permanent
collection. The reproductions vary in size from the original, and
quantities can be limited. There are decorative objects, bronze and
cast marble sculptures; art books; prints; jewelry; scarves; and even
an educational children’s boutique section. An annual holiday sale
and summer sale in June.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store is open from 10 a.m. to 9
p.m. Monday to Friday; from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and from 11
a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Level One, South Coast Plaza. (714)

LUXURY FOR MEN
Garys is a high-end luxury men’s clothing store that’s offers a
progressive international mix of designer brands. Many lines are
Italian. Top sellers include Zegna, Giorgio Armani, Loro Piana and
Luciano Barbera. It’s the only boutique store at Fashion Island to
carry the Haupt and George Roth collections, and Oxxford, known as
the finest American-made tailored clothing. President Bush wore a
herringbone Oxxford suit to his inauguration. Oxxford suits start at
$2,295 and could last a lifetime. Owner Dick Braeger was one of three
original partners of Cole Haan, so naturally, Garys does a big shoe
business. About 60% of the shoes are Cole Haan’s. The rest are
specialty Italian brands, including Giorgio Armani, Prada, and
handmade Moreschi and Gravati. Garys also has its own BOSS Hugo Boss
shop that offers a label system; red is fashion forward, trimmer fit;
orange is sport; black is classic; green is golf; and white is the
Baldessarini luxury collection. Sportswear, knits and T-shirts sell
like crazy here, yet they offer an extensive suit collection, as
well. Ask for David Cantu, who offers excellent customer service.
Eight exceptional tailors on staff can offer same-day tailoring.
There are two annual sales -- after Christmas and in July. Garys is
open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; from 10 a.m. to 7
