Tennis tournament begins on Saturday

One of Orange County’s oldest tennis events, the Huntington Beach

Open Tennis Tournament, will begin Saturday at the Pacific Sands

Cabana Club in Huntington Beach.

After Saturday’s opening round of competition, the tournament,

which celebrates its 42nd year, continues with play on Sunday and

again the weekend of Aug. 23 and 24.

Competition will take place in these divisions: Open, Open Senior

Men; 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0.

Local golf tourney tees off Aug. 25

The Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce will host its 27th annual

golf tournament Monday, Aug. 25, at SeaCliff Country Club.

Registration for the tournament, which will benefit several

community programs sponsored by the chamber, begins at 9:30 a.m. with

a shotgun start scheduled for 11 a.m.

Reservations must be made by Aug 20.

The cost is $225 per player or $900 per foursome and includes

green fees, golf cart, lunch/dinner, refreshments, golf shirt and

contests.

The event features lunch at the ninth hole, a buffet dinner at the

conclusion of the tournament, a progressive raffle and golf contests

such as closest-to-the-in, putting, win-a-car and longest drive.

A special $500 cash prize will be issued to the golfer closest to

the pin on hole nine.

In addition, each golfer will receive a Fidra by John Ashworth

golf shirt.

Registration for Rookies continues

Registration continues for Rookies Soccer, a league for youth ages

3 to 7 and presented by the West County Family Branch YMCA in

Huntington Beach.

The six-week season begins Sept. 22 and runs through Oct. 30.

The West County Family Branch YMCA’s sports program is designed to

teach children the fundamentals of sports emphasizing skill

development, character development, sportsmanship, safety and fun.
