Chancellor given chief executive award
Chancellor William M. Vega of the Coast Community College
District, which oversees Orange Coast College, received the 2003
Chief Executive Officer of the Year award from the Assn. of Community
Colleges, the district announced Monday.
Vega, who has served as chancellor for 10 years, began his career
with the district 18 years ago, when he served as president. Now,
through his work as the chancellor, he serves as the district’s chief
executive.
The Marie Martin Award is awarded every year to a chief executive
in each of the association’s five regions. As the Pacific Region
recipient, Vega will now be nominated for the national award.
Vega was chosen for his many accomplishments during his tenure as
chancellor. Those include his pioneering efforts of distance learning
and an emphasis on the use of technology to expand access to higher
education students.
