Locals put on strong showing as season ends

Christianne Thebaud Kinder earned a first-place finish and several
other local athletes turned in strong performances as the city of
Laguna Beach Community Services Department’s youth track and field
season came to an end at the Southern California Municipal Athletic
Federation championships held at Gahr High in Cerritos.
Thebaud Kinder jumped three-feet-two to win the Division 93 high
jump for coach Fred Pichay’s program.
That first-place finish came on the heels of Thebaud Kinder
winning the Orange County Championships at Trabuco Hills High with a
jump of three feet.
She also won the City Meet held in April with another jump of
three feet and also won the 100-meter dash in a time of 17.98.
Stephanie Ross claimed third-place in the long jump with an effort
of 11-feet-10 in the girls’ Division 91 event. Ross was the top
performer at the county meet with a 12-feet-7 and first also at the
city meet with a jump of 12-5.
Ross also won the 100-meter dash at the city meet with a 15.07 and
was ninth at the county meet at 15.4.
Michael Brown finished in third-place at the Southern California
meet in the Division 89 boys’ high jump with a mark of 4-feet-8 1/2.
Brown also was third at the county meet and won the city meet with a
4-feet-4 jump.
He also finished in third-place at the county meet in the
200-meter dash with a time of 30.7.
Joseph Rosseau earned a ninth-place finish in the Division 94
boys’ long jump at 9-feet-3 1/2. He was second at the county meet at
10-1 and first at the city meet at 9-feet-2.
Rosseau teamed with Xaviar Barbadur, George Stevens and Lucas
Stevens to run a 1:14.4 and place third in the 400-meter relay.
Barbadur, the city champion in the Division 94 boys’ softball
throw at 86-feet-5, was fourth in the county event with a throw of
100-feet-6.
Marlee Grosher took first-place at the county and city meets in
the Division 96 long jump with marks of 9-feet-3 and 8-feet-6,
respectively. She also finished first in the 100- and 200-meter dash
at the city meet.
Kelly Cassidy captured a pair of fourth-place finishes in the
50-meter dash (8.8) and 200-meter dash (17.3) after placing first at
the city meet in both events with times of 9.2 and 18.3,
respectively.
Jordan Tygh won the city’s Division 91 boys’ high jump (3-feet-9)
and long jump (9-feet-7) and placed second at the county meet with a
high jump of 3-feet-10.
Crispin Collins claimed first-place in two city meet events,
winning the 200-meter dash (28.15) and the 400-meter dash (1:04). He
improved on his 400-meter time at the county meet by running a 1:01.5
to place second.
Scott DeYoung took three, first-place finishes at the city meet.
He won the 200-meters in 28.71, the 400-meters in 1:04 and the long
jump at 13-feet-2 /14. He followed that performance by winning the
long jump (14-feet-9) and was second in the 400-meters (1:01.5) at
the county meet.
Madeline Knutson was another three-event winner at the city meet
as she won the 200-meters in 50.82, the 400-meters in 1:35 and the
softball throw at 29-feet. At the county meet, Knutson placed fifth
in the 400-meters with a 1:51.8.
Chris Paul and Kelly Cassidy each established new city meet
records.
Paul won the Division 92 boys’ softball throw at 149-feet, his
mark breaking a record that stood for 23 years, a 141-feet-7 by Scott
Hamilton back in 1980.
Cassidy won the 100-meter dash in 17.3, eclipsing the 17.34 record
set by Alexis Ives in 1992.
Triple girls’ first-place winners at the city meet included
Mariana Paul in the Division 94 50-, 100- and 200-meters; Raquel
Altman in the Division 93 200- and 400-meters and softball throw;
Jais Alexis Tollette in the Division 90 100- and 200-meters and long
jump and Hannah Ng in the Division 89 100- and 1600-meters and long
jump.
Triple boys’ first-place winners at the city competition were
Jonah Erikson in the Division 95 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash;
George Sadler in the Division 94 50-, 100- and 200-meter dash; Chris
Barwick in the Division 93 100- and 200-meter dash and long jump and
Cody Blanchard in the Division 91 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash.
