Alfred Dunhill was a quirky guy. After inheriting his father’s

horse and carriage accessories company in 1893, he quickly turned the

company’s focus toward the up and coming motor car of 1897. He

branded his company as Dunhill Motorities supplying auto accessories:

goggles, driving gloves, caps and shoes. A 1904 London ad of

Dunhill’s Bobby Finders claimed they “will spot a policeman at half a

mile even if disguised as a respectable man.” Today, Alfred Dunhill’s

company has evolved as a “luxury emporium for men.” Dunhill is a

modern and contemporary boutique featuring seasonal men’s wear,

leather goods, humidors, lighters, pipes, games, pens, luggage,

briefcases, wallets and cardholders. Also, Dunhill offers a full

Family-owned Charles David is known for its stylish shoes

appealing to fashion-conscious women. Owner Charles Malka’s daughter,

known as Nathalie M., is creative director of the Charles David

Roxy, Quiksilver’s happening line for girls, opened its first

boutique here at South Coast Plaza. The place to find the entire Roxy

collection: denim, sweatshirts, tees, dresses, handbags, hats,

slippers, sandals, sunglasses and more. Size ranges for 4-year-olds

up to junior 13. A promotional sale on the Boost Mobile phone ($129)

by Nextel is popular with teens. It comes with 25 prepaid minutes.

The cell phones offer pre-paid phone cards, no long-term contracts or
