The Academy for the

Performing Arts will present “Catch A Rising Star,” which will

showcase excerpts from the season’s musicals, comedies, dramas, and

The International Surfing

Museum of Huntington Beach will present its Surfin’ Sundays

Concert Series at the pier featuring the Closet Surfers, Insect

Jazz at the Center will

present the Billy Mitchell Group at the Huntington Beach Art

Center, 538 Main St. from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Mitchell, a powerful but

sensitive pianist, has appeared at Monterey Jazz Festival, Playboy

Jazz Festival and in the film about Charlie Parker, “Bird.” His

“straight ahead jazz” combo features bass, drums and sax to

Huntington Beach Concour

d’Elegance will hold a fund-raising car show in the park at

Huntington Beach Central Park. Cost of attendance is $10, which will

Huntington Smooth Jazz Series will present Marion Meadows, one of

the most distinctive soprano sax voices, and a great tenor

saxophonist at a smooth jazz dinner and concert at the Huntington

Beach Central Library Theater. Meadows has recorded or performed with

Brook Benton, Eartha Kitt, the Temptations, Michael Bolton, Angela

Bofill, Will Downing and Native American flute player Douglas Spotted

The Huntington Beach Concert Band is an all-volunteer community

organization with approximately 70 members, led by music director Tom

Ridley. Founded in February 1973, the band plays a wide variety of

musical styles -- from classical to Broadway and contemporary. They

perform frequently at events and locations throughout Southern

California, including Disneyland, Leisure World, the Huntington Beach

Pier Plaza and the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. The Huntington

Beach Concert Band is open to all interested musicians age 18 and
