Yankees blank Diamondbacks in key game
In a key game that determined the leader in the Majors Division at
Ocean View Little League, the Yankees assumed sole position of the
top spot following a 5-0 victory over the Diamondbacks.
Michael Nakamura struck out 12 and was backs by the defensive play
of Ben Alberts, Kyle Breedlove, Garrett Coulson, Slater Davies, Matt
Deaner, Kory Kovac, Jesse Mestas, Deondre Moss, Jeff Perez and Calvin
Primich as the Yankees registered their seventh shutout win of the
season in improving to 13-3.
The Yankee’s hitting attack was powered by Moss who had three hits
and an RBI and Kovac with a double and single and three RBIs.
Nakamura also doubled.
In other games:
Diamondbacks 20, Angels 4
A huge fifth inning performance spelled the difference as the
Diamondbacks ran away from the Angels.
In that frame, the D-backs sent 17 batters to the plate who
produced 11 runs.
Diamondbacks 7, Twins 6
Matt Arledge’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning
completed the D-backs’ rally from a 6-3 deficit and gave them the
extra-inning victory.
The pitching of Andy Ragsdale kept the D-backs at bay for the
first four innings as the Twins built a 6-3 advantage.
But the D-backs began to rally in the bottom of the fifth. Beau
Amaral’s one-out double to right-centerfield knocked in two runs and
brought his team to within a run.
Amaral later scored on a wild pitch to knot the score at 6-6.
Matt Cole earned the pitching victory by pitching the final three
innings.
At Huntington Valley Little League:
White Sox 2, Diamondbacks 1
The White Sox came up with two runs in their final at-bat to pull
one out against the Diamondbacks.
Jordan Singh delivered the victory with a two-run double.
Jimmy Miller doubled and got the pitching win on a four-hitter and
Nic Monaco singled for the White Sox.
Matt Reza doubled, singled and scored the only run for the
D-backs, Michael Pellegrino doubled, A.J. Guerra singled and Trevor
Carberry gave up just four hits in a complete-game effort.
Pirates 6, Dodgers 4
In his first pitching assignment of the season, Zack Michael
recorded the victory behind a 12-strikeout game in five innings work.
Richard Levinson doubled among three hits to lead the Pirates.
Nick Mazzone doubled and Tim Higgins and Ryan Hawkes each singled.
Houston Hill’s two hits paced the Dodgers. Reed Thomas doubled and
singles went to Nick Gialenes, Mike Wilson, Brad Schultz and Jared
Gilbert.
A’s 10, White Sox 1
Race Parmenter hit a home run, singled twice and scored two runs
as the A’s recorded 12 hits in downing the White Sox.
Jonathon McBeth, Jake Guzman and James Miller each had two hits.
Nick Miller and Parmenter combined to limit the White Sox to a
single hit, that off the bat of Jordin Davis.
Jimmy Miller scored the White Sox’s lone run.
Diamondbacks 13, Dodgers 1
The D-backs matched 13 hits with 13-runs in the one-sided victory.
Devin Huskins led the attack with three hits -- including a double
and triple -- and scored three runs.
Tanner Phillips also ripped a double and triple and Rob Toth and
Ben Hunt each doubled twice.
Huskins and Barry Luke combined on a five-hitter for the D-backs,
two of which were singles by Matt Reza.
Pirates 3, Angels 2
Tim Higgins’ sacrifice fly in the eighth inning delivered the
winning run as the Pirates outlasted the Angels.
Ricky Marin had two hits, Higgins also tripled and Sam Hunt
singled and scored twice for the Pirates.
Higgins and Nick Mazzone, who also singled, combined to one-hit
the Halos and recorded 17 strikeouts.
John Olive scored both runs for the Angels and pitched five solid
innings with nine strikeouts.
Jullien Herrera had the lone hit for the Angels.
At Seaview Little League:
Cardinals 8, Padres 0
Wes Lightman threw a three-hitter and shutdown the Padres on 69
pitches to lead the Cardinals.
Lightman also starred on offense with two hits and a run scored.
Andy Nemes doubled among two hits, Justin Wood and Parker Shannon
each had two hits and Nemes, Shannon and Lance Lavage each scored
twice.
Josh Ardis and Kaikai Kamai singled for the Padres.
In Minor A action:
Yankees 10, Rockies 2
Tony Giovinetti’s standout pitching performance included 18
strikeouts as the Yankees upended the Rockies.
Giovinetti threw all six innings, getting three strikeouts in each
frame to record each defensive out for the Yankees.
Giovinetti backed his pitching with two singles and a double.
Brett Bryant doubled twice and singled, Brett Sadler, Matt Kibby
and Brandon Hastings each doubled and Sean Mottles and Cole Fraser
singled for the Yankees.
