Day claims honor
Costa Mesa High senior Sharon Day was named the Orange County Female
Athlete of the Year Tuesday night by the county’s Athletic Director’s
Association at the Anaheim Convention Center.
It is believed to be the first time a Costa Mesa female athlete
has ever won the award, Pat Leahy, the school’s girls athletic
director, said.
Day, who was also voted the Golden West League Female Athlete of
the Year by the circuit’s athletic directors, is a soccer, volleyball
and track and field standout. She’s the county record holder in the
high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches.
Mesa senior Danny Krikorian, who competed in basketball,
volleyball and track, earned Golden West League Boys Athlete of the
Year accolades at the meeting.
