The top-seeded Corona del Mar High boys tennis team puts its unbeaten

record on the line today when it plays host to Foothill in the

quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs at 2

p.m.

Coach Tim Mang’s Sea Kings (21-0) have rolled through the first

two rounds of the playoffs, topping South Torrance, 15-3, then

handling Santa Margarita, 14-4. The Pacific Coast League champions

are aiming for the program’s third section championship in five

seasons, the 10th in its proud history.

Mang said the Sea Kings will be bolstered by the return of Carsten

Ball, who missed the second-round match while playing at a tournament

out of town. CdM is also led by University of Texas-bound senior

Garrett Snyder.

Foothill, the Sea View League champion, has advanced with a pair

of narrow victories. The Knights got past first-round foe Mater Dei,

10-8, then advanced on games (80-67) after finishing in a 9-9 tie

with Esperanza in the second round.
