Marine sergeant visits Woodland kindergartners
Marine Sgt. Aaron Wintterle, a 23-year-old Marine sent home after
being shot in the mouth while fighting in Baghdad, visited a
kindergarten class at Woodland Elementary School in Costa Mesa on
Wednesday. The students, who had heard about Wintterle from Rebecca
Olsen, their teacher and his aunt, presented him with a book with
words of gratitude and colorful pictures.
Measure A construction at seven Newport-Mesa Unified schools has
begun. The cost is about $21 million for work at four Costa Mesa
schools -- Woodland, Whittier and Kaiser elementary schools, and Back
Bay/Monte Vista High School -- and three in Newport Beach --
Mariners, Newport Heights and Harbor View Elementary, which broke
ground nearly three weeks ago.
Vanguard University broke ground Tuesday on the first of eight new
buildings scheduled for construction before 2010. The new building,
the Heath Academic Center, will to house the university’s religious
and business studies.
