Glatch wins Easter Bowl crown

Alexa Glatch of Newport Beach won the girls 14s singles title at the
Easter Bowl junior tennis championships Friday, while Anne Yelsey of
Corona del Mar advanced to the 18s singles final at the Riviera
Resort Racquet Club.
Glatch, the No. 1 seed, topped No. 2-seeded Maggie Mello of Laguna
Beach, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, to complete a five-match sweep. She did not
lose a set her first four matches, but was forced to prevail in the
third set Friday.
Yelsey, the No. 9 seed, rallied past Vania King of Long Beach,
0-6, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to today’s 11 a.m. final against No.
4-seeded Mary Gambale from Billerica, Mass.
Yelsey has battled her way to the title match. She won, 7-5, 7-5,
Thursday.
Gambale beat top-seeded Alexandra Podkolzina, 6-1, 6-1, in
Friday’s semifinal.
