Luke no-hits Dodgers; D-backs roll

Barry Luke no-hit the Dodgers last weekend and the pitcher was backed

by a potent offense as the Diamondbacks recorded an 8-0 victory in

Huntington Valley Little League Majors Division action.

He struck out nine in recording the win.

In addition, he had a standout day at the plate as he singled,

doubled and tripled while scoring two runs.

Scott Martin, Ben Hunt and Rob Toth backed Luke with two hits

each.

Mike Pellegrino and AJ Guerra also singled.

IN OTHER GAMES:

Pirates 1, Angels 0

A tight pitcher’s duel went to the unbeaten Pirates who scored the

game’s only run in the sixth inning.

In the sixth, three consecutive batters were hit by a pitch and,

with bases loaded, Brian Corder scored on a wild pitch.

Tim Higgins and Nick Mazzone both worked the mound for the

Pirates, the two combining on a two-hitter while striking out 15.

The Angels’ hits came from the bats of Jullien Herrera and John

Olive.

Olive pitched for the Angels and also allowed just two hits.

Higgins tripled and Ryan Hakes had a bunt single for the Pirates.

White Sox 5, A’s 4

The White Sox scored four runs in the fifth inning and another in

the sixth to post the come-from-behind victory.

Nic Monaco led off the sixth with a double and went on to score

the winning run.

Travis Hanley, Bradley Hansen and Jimmy Miller had key hits for

the White Sox.

Hanley and Miller shared pitching duties for the White Sox.

Bennett Allen pitched four, scoreless innings for the A’s and held

the White Sox to a single hit.

Trevor Springman led the A’s offensively with three hits including

a double.

Jon Miller added to the cause with three singles and Race

Parmenter, Jonathon McBeth and Conor Reynolds each singled for the

A’s.

In Ocean View Little League Majors play:

A’s 1, Giants 0

Matt McWilliam’s solid pitching effort resulted in a one-hit,

10-strikeout performance in six innings as the A’s emerged with a

hard-fought victory.

Blake Cestr’s two-out single in the first inning was the lone hit

for the Giants.

From there out, McWilliams retired the final 16 batters, the last

six via strikeout.

The A’s didn’t secure the win until the top of the sixth when Zach

Graves walked, Andrew Bynum followed with a single and Sean Guite

walked to load the bases.

That set the stage for David Schwartz who delivered his third hit

of the game to score Graves for the winning run.

Miles Beran also had a three-hit game for the A’s.

Brian Cassidy also threw a strong, six innings for the Giants.

Yankees 14, Dodgers 0

Kory Kovac’s two-RBI double in the first inning got the Yankees

off an running in the shutout victory.

Kovac added a two-run single in the fourth inning.

Jeff Perez, Jesse Mestas, Calvin Primich, Ben Albert, Kyle

Breedlove, Deondre Moss and Michael Nakamura each had an RBI single

and Matt Deaner provided a two-RBI double, during a nine-run, fourth

inning.

Moss singled home Mestas in the sixth for the Yankees’ final run.

Nakamura got the pitching win, striking out six in four innings

work.

Albert came on in relief and recorded five strikeouts in two

innings as the division-leading Yankees improved to 5-1.
