CdM gains tie for first

Corona del Mar High junior pitcher Josh Bradbury surrendered just one
hit in six shutout innings and the Sea Kings exploded for 16 hits to
post an 11-0 Pacific Coast League baseball win Tuesday at University
High.
The victory, the Sea Kings’ third straight league triumph, propels
them into a share of first place and improves their record to 7-4,
4-2 in league. University is also 4-2 in league and Laguna Beach
entered Tuesday’s game against Calvary Chapel with a 3-2 league mark.
“This was our best all-around performance in league,” CdM Coach
John Emme said.
The Sea Kings posted single runs in the second, third and fifth
innings, before exploding for eight in the seventh to avenge a 6-5
loss to Uni in the March 21 league opener at CdM.
Bradbury, now 3-0 on the mound, gave up only a solid single in the
second, before giving way to reliever Griffin Dunzer in the seventh.
Bradbury struck out six and walked three. He also went 2 for 3 with
two RBIs and walked twice to bolster the offense. Bradbury is now
hitting a team-leading .543.
“He was dominant,” Emme said of Bradbury’s pitching performance.
“He went after them, kept our defense on its toes and threw
first-pitch strikes all day.”
Nick Palchikoff went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Barrett Sprowl
doubled three times in four at-bats. Danny Marin-Finn was 3 for 4,
Keith Long was 3 for 5 and Brandon Kurtz drove in two runs for the
winners.
Emme said the recent upswing is a tribute to his players’
commitment to preparation.
“I think they knew we were underachieving and all of us decided we
could elevate our preparation,” Emme said. “We started focusing on
what we needed to get done that day, whether it be a game or
practice, instead of looking at a picture at the end of the road.”
