NORTHERN EUROPEAN STYLE

Montblanc was named after the highest European mountain, Mont

Blanc in the French Alps. It was chosen to symbolize highest quality

standards for its products. In 1924, the Hamburg, Germany based

Montblanc company introduced the Meisterstuck fountain pen that it’s

most famous for today. The luxury pen starts at $195 for an 18k gold

trim style and can cost up to thousands of dollars for limited

editions with rubies and white gold. Collectors shop here for latest

editions. Montblanc is also known for its Swiss-made watches --

sports collection, classic and profile styles for casual and business

looks -- as well as leather collections, desk accessories,

sunglasses, money clips, and fragrances for men and women. South

Coast Plaza, Level 2, near Book Soup. (888) 299-4810.

IT’S IN THE DETAILS

Handmade detailing on most Lucky Brand jeans distinguishes them

from other denims. Sandpaper grinding adds frays and whiskers for a

“vintage” distressed look. Lucky Brands are cut and sewn by hand and

vary by weights measured in ounces. There are 20 styles to choose

from for men and women. Prices range from $68 to $120. Sizes vary

with cuts, colors and length -- women sizes from 24 to 32, men sizes

from 29 to 40. It’s best to try them on for a proper fit. There’s

also a big selection of logo shirts, western shirts, bathing suits,

purses, belts, shoes and baseball caps. There are two sales a year --

almost 75% of the store reduced 50% -- in July and January. Open from

10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday; and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Fashion Island,

Newport Beach. (949) 759-7800. www.luckybrandjeans.com.
