A former mayor one choice to replace Costa Mesa leader
- Share via
Since the city election was only a few months ago, I think the
vacancy on the City Council should be filled by the runner-up with
the largest number of votes, who in this case would be Linda Dixon.
The mayor should be appointed in the usual manner. What surprises me
is that there are not already guidelines in place in case the city
council member has to leave before their term is completed.

Why not just name the person that got the next most votes [in the
last election]? It will save the city and some people an awful lot of
money.

I’d like to recommend using Linda Dixon to fill Robinson’s term.
She has been on the council. She is very informed and has a lot of
experience in politics. Plus, I think an election would be too
expensive and also bad timing.

I just think perhaps, instead of wasting money on another
election, the answer is just to fill the spot with the person who was
the third runner-up at the last election. I think that would
eliminate a lot of cost to the city when there is already a pretty
deep problem with how money should be spent. So if anything, that
would probably be the best idea since that would allow the people of
Costa Mesa who voted for her to be represented and that would solve a
lot of the problem.
