What a difference. When in El Cajon March 12 Orange Coast College’s
Pirates were three-game victims at Grossmont in Orange Empire
Conference men’s volleyball.
Wednesday it was Grossmont wondering what happened following the
Pirates’ 30-19, 30-18, 30-22 victory.
Freshman outside hitter Poyer Poia continued his outstanding
hitting, leading all with 20 kills to go along with nine digs. Setter
Mike Murphy dished out 45 assists, with Doug Lewis (nine kills), Dane
Gilliam (eight kills) and Levi Luster (seven kills) blending into the
attack.
“They didn’t start well and when you don’t start well and get got
some momentum, I don’t think they ever got it going,” said OCC Coach
Chuck Cutenese. “They played a lot better when we played them the
first time, but I thought we played well. There are a few things that
we could have done a little bit differently.”
Coast, 14-4, 9-4, will host San Diego Mesa Wednesday at 7 p.m.
