Wilkins flawless in Sage Hill victory
Sage Hill School junior Tim Wilkins tossed his first prep no-hitter
to lead the Lightning to an 11-0 Academy League-opening baseball win
over host Whitney Friday.
Wilkins , an All-Newport-Mesa performer as a sophomore, struck out
eight in five innings, after which the game was called due to the
10-run mercy rule. He did not walk a batter and Whitney’s lone
baserunner came when its leadoff man reached on an errant throw to
first after an infield grounder.
Wilkins, now 2-0, was backed up by seniors Zach Friedrichs and
Cliff Swanson, both of whom homered. Friedrichs launched a three-run
dinger to center field to help fuel a 10-run second inning, while
Swanson belted a solo shot two batters later.
Friedrichs finished 3 for 3 with three runs, three RBIs and a
stolen base. Swanson was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Sage Hill improved to 2-1-1, 1-0.
