Sailors sweep past Huntington Beach

Newport Harbor High’s girls and boys track and field teams posted
victories Thursday over host Huntington Beach in a nonleague dual
meet.
Amy Burlingham finished first in two events and the girls added
five more victories to stake a 66-60 win over Huntington Beach.
Burlingham raced to first in the 200-meters (26.7) and the 400
(1:00.4). Courtney Marshall led all runners in the 1,600 (5:33.5) and
Jennifer Ryder took first in the high jump (4-feet-10). Jaclyn Belida
finished first in the long jump (14-9) and Jillianne Whitfield won
the shot put (35-1).
Belida, Whitfield, Tayler Giacomarao and Ryder all finished second
as well. Belida finished in second in the triple jump (30-7),
followed by Whitfield in the discus (122-8), Giacomarao in the 800
(2:36) and Ryder in the 300 intermediate hurdles (51.3).
Harbor was also victorious in the 400 relay, crossing the finish
line in 51.8.
On the boys side, Matt Tracy, Alec Urtusuastegui, Matt Encinias,
Rhett Hartsfield and Jon Szecsei all took first in their events as
Newport beat Huntington, 59-48. Tracy raced to first in the 400
(52.7) and was joined by Urtusuastegui in the 800 (2:08), Encinias in
the long jump (13-1), Hartsfield in the triple jump (39-3) and
Szecsei in the shot put (47-1).
Harbor also placed in second place five times: Dartagnan Johnson
in the 100 (11.4), Joel Walker in the 200 (23.3) Nick Miller in the
1,600 (4:49) and Ricky Nott in both the triple jump (35-8) and high
jump (5-4).
Newport won the 400 relay in 44.6.
