Eagles teams split with Saddleback

Freshman Chad Kunert and junior Anthony Hermann achieved personal

records, but the Estancia High boys swim team suffered a 91-78 Golden

West League loss to visiting Saddleback Wednesday.

Kunert won the 100-yard backstroke with a personal-best 1:06.72,

while Hermann touched first in the 100 breaststroke in his own record

time of 1:17.50. The Eagles dropped to 3-1, 1-1 in league.

In girls’ action:

Estancia High’s girls swim team evened its record to 1-1 with a

90-80 Golden West League victory over visiting Saddleback.

The Eagles had six first-place finishes including: the 200-yard

medley relay team of Carolina Barnes, Marilyn Reich, Courtney Hess

and Katie Mahan (2:16.93); 200 individual medley (Reich with a

2:39.82); 50 freestyle (Barnes in 29:68); 100 free (Lihini Keenawinna

in 1:08.67); the 4 x 50 free relay team of Britta Pitti, Mahan, Hess

and Barnes with a 2:00.78; and the 100 breaststroke (Reich in 1:16.43

for CIF consideration.

Jayme Fay took second in the 500 free (6:51.67) with Barnes also

finished in the same spot in the 100 back (1:19.27). Pitti took

second in the 200 IM (2:50) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:24.70).
