Estancia errors costly, 9-4
The field recovered well enough from the weekend downpour to make up
a Newport Elks Tournament consolation game Monday, but the Estancia
High defense was a little soggy in a 9-4 baseball loss at Rancho
Alamitos.
The Eagles committed three of their five errors in the fifth
inning, all consecutively, to yield four of the seven unearned runs
scored by the Vaqueros.
Jeremy Hauser, Cullen Crom and Eric Scheafer each had two hits for
the Eagles, who fell to 1-3.
Hauser was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Crom was 2 for 3 with an RBI and
Scheafer was 2 for 3 and scored twice. Hauser also pitched
effectively in relief for Estancia, which will complete tournament
play against an opponent to be determined on a date that is also
forthcoming.
Rancho rallied with two in the first to overcome a 1-0 deficit and
led, 5-1, before Estancia scored once in the fifth to cut into he
lead. After Estancia’s defensive lapses opened the door in the fifth,
the Eagles scored twice in the seventh, but could not extend the
rally.
