Newcastle, a boys-under 10 soccer team from AYSO Region 97, went 2-1
to win the Section 11 championship last weekend. Newcaslte now
advances to the Tri-Sectional Tournament March 22 in Temecula.
Newcastle defeated Chula Vista, 5-0, in the opening game as Colton
Gyulay scored four goals and Steven Miller secured the victory by
netting the fifth goal.
Ivan Becerra, Brice Manning and Connor May led the stingy
Newcastle defense with Ryan Davis and Ian Baugh splitting time in
goal to record the shutout.
Becerra, Miller and Gyulay played strong in the championship game
against Fountain Valley. Becerra, Manning and Moy controlled the game
defensively for Newcastle and Miller saved a goal by sweeping the
ball out of the goal box late in the game.
Midfielders Bradley Beaudette, Ryan Look, Skylar Gray, Derek Kula
and Jesse Torres all solidified the victory with Kula and Beaudette
nearly scoring goals in the game. Gyulay scored all three goals to
secure the victory and Davis and Baugh played staunchly in the net.
Gyulay scored both goals in a 2-2 tie with Carson-Wilmington.
Carson jumped to a 1-0 lead before Gyulay scored on a penalty kick
and Newcastle led, 2-1, before Carson tied it.
