UC Irvine’s losing streak extended to six games with a 7-1 loss
against San Diego Friday at Cunningham Baseball Stadium.
San Diego’s (4-9) Joey Prast and Freddie Sandoval hit consecutive
home runs in the bottom of the third off UCI starter Glenn Swanson to
take a 2-0 lead.
The Anteaters answered with a run in the top of the third on Mark
Wagner’s sacrifice fly to score Gary Dudrey. Wagner was 2-3 with a
double.
The Toreros added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth,
including a second home run by Prast. Prast finished the game 2-5
with three RBI and three runs scored. Sandoval was 2-4 with a run and
an RBI.
San Diego starter Kyle Collins limited the Anteaters (2-7) to just
four hits while striking out six in eight innings to improve to 1-1.
UCI starter Glenn Swanson fell to 0-1 on the season after lasting
just four innings and giving up five runs on 10 hits while striking
out three.
The Anteaters will face the Toreros in the second game of the
three-game series today at 1 p.m.
