With only one game remaining in All-Star season, the Newport Gold
boys under-10 soccer team sits in first place with an undefeated
record (10-0).
Newport defeated Tustin, 7-1, with two goals from Colton Gyulay
along with single tallies from Timmy Root, Misha Pakvasa, Ivan
Becerra, John Barton and Steven Miller.
Tustin scored its only goal in the third period to make it, 3-1,
but Newport responded in a big way. Barton scored his goal off a pass
from Christian Ochoa.
Strong passing skills were displayed by Scott Ridgeway and Taylor
Wildman with defensive pressure from Sean Regan, Drew Diller and
goalkeeper Logan Newett.
Newport, coached by Phil Miller and Tom Gyulay, played the other
Newport Gold team in its first game last weekend and won, 3-0.
Miller scored in the first period and Gyulay then tallied a goal
off a penalty kick in the second quarter.
Max Gerard had 24 saves in goal for the losing Newport team.
