WHAT HAPPENED:

The council approved a municipal code requiring approval and

acceptance by the City Council of required improvements.

WHAT IT MEANS:

After the city engineer inspects and improves required works of

subdivision improvements, the City Council will approve those works

as complete.

Councilman Steve Dicterow was absent.

WHAT HAPPENED:

The council approved the 2003 Patriots Day Parade to be held from

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 1, 2003.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The Patriots Day Parade Committee will hold the 37th annual parade

and will be permitted to post “no parking” signs on the south side of

the 300 block of Ocean Avenue, the parade route and assembly areas 24

hours in advance of the event. They were also authorized to use a

public address system. The theme will be “Freedom’s Promise.” The

parade will begin at Laguna Beach High School and continue down Park

Avenue, Glenneyre Street, Forest and Ocean Avenue. The committee will

also investigate the possibility of holding a community fair at the

conclusion of the parade at a location within the Downtown area. The

council encouraged them to work with the Laguna Beach Chamber of

Commerce and Downtown merchants to hold the fair.

WHAT HAPPENED:

The council resolved to declare its intention to order the

construction of improvements in the Mystic Hills and Terry

Road/Alexander Road areas and form the Underground Utility Assessment

District 99-02 as well as approve the Engineer’s Report.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The proposed district amendment will provide for the placement of

overhead utilities underground in the Mystic Hills and Terry

Road/Alexander Road areas. The first public meeting will be held on

Dec. 17 and a second public hearing allowing for protests to the

proposed improvements will take place on Jan. 21.
