A night of holiday fun

As if Laguna wasn’t charming enough.
About 20 years ago, the city’s Chamber of Commerce decided to have
Hospitality Night. A gimmick? Another commercialization of the
holidays? No way! Well, maybe a little, but the heart and fun of it
far surpasses the cynical interpretation.
Downtown is already lined with trees and shops covered in lights.
The crisp air and feel of comfort makes it seem like you’ve stepped
into “It’s A Wonderful Life.”
Tonight, Downtown will be packed with people milling around,
visiting the shops and partaking in their generosity -- hot cocoa,
cookies and wine. And Santa will be here! He’ll come riding in on his
fire engine thrilling kids who’ve been on their best behavior for
weeks.
Children’s bands and choirs will perform, a craft bazaar will be
open at Laguna Presbyterian and La Playa Center will have a tamale
booth.
It may be somewhat stressful for shop owners to keep an eye on
their stores filled to the brim, but what a chance to get acquainted
with new customers and some who haven’t been around for some time.
This year, something new has been added. South Village is getting
in on the fun. On Dec. 12, it will have its own Hospitality Night,
complete with welcoming promotions -- Chase and Lounge is offering
stocking stuffers and hostess gifts from $5 to $25, Pottery Shack is
planning a three-hour sale and the art galleries will offer
refreshments.
What a joy just to stroll down the hill and find a cozy, warm
heart and holiday-filled event on a near-winter night.
