Young masters work shown Downtown
First-graders at Agnes L. Smith Elementary School had their
first-ever art showing Tuesday evening at the Iron Gate in Downtown
Huntington Beach.
As part of the Meet the Masters art program sponsored by the PTA,
the students created artwork reflective of a randomly chosen artist
and then had the work on display for the community to see.
The artist chosen for the month was Piet Mondrian, whose work from
1872 to 1944 was imitated by the students using a paper collage media
and then displayed in the store front window.
“I just want to make the children feel proud about the work that
they’ve accomplished and share that with the community,” said
Nannette Lesage, owner of The Iron Gate, a fine home accessories
store. “It brings pride to the students.”
The students’ artwork, which was celebrated during an art showcase
Tuesday evening for the young artists’ friends and family, will
remain in the window for another month before the showcasing of other
imitative pieces by students will be displayed.
