Vehicle fire slows freeway traffic
A SigAlert was issued for about an hour after a vehicle caught
fire on the northbound San Diego Freeway near Fairview Road Wednesday
evening, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The 7 p.m. call reported that a vehicle was on its side, CHP
officer Katrina Lundgren said.
“We then started getting more calls saying the vehicle was fully
engulfed in flames,” she said.
Traffic was backed up after three lanes and the carpool lane were
closed.
At least two vehicles -- including a Ferrari -- were involved in
the crash, and one person was taken to the hospital, a Costa Mesa
Fire dispatcher said. Costa Mesa firefighters responded to the call
and did not find anyone trapped in any of the vehicles, the
dispatcher said.
Lundgren said no major injuries were reported.
