Ice Breakers take down Raptors

The Ice Breakers ran their season’s record to 3-0 Saturday by
blanking the Raptors, 4-1, in AYSO Region 117 boys’ Under-10 Division
play.
The Raptors had taken a 1-0 first period lead on a Matthew
Stickler score before the Ice Breakers evened things up in the second
quarter on Matthew Steinhaus’ goal.
The teams were tied, 1-1, at halftime.
In the third quarter, Mitchell Phillipy parlayed a corner kick by
Steinhaus into a goal to give the Ice Breakers the lead for good.
Steinhaus scored his second goal of the contest on a feed from
Trevor Verone in the fourth quarter and Garrett Hickman completed the
scoring with a goal later in the period.
Gavin Perdomo, Nick Frens and Matthew Bordas led the Ice Breakers
on defense. Adding to the offensive attack were Tommy Vollum, Cole
Souza and Michael Rowe.
Verone, Phillipy, Perdomo and Hickman each took turns in the net
to limit the Raptors to a single goal.

Arsenal 1, Region 143 1
The two, Under-14 Division teams fought to a standstill Saturday
in this inter-region match.
Arsenal, out of Region 117, struck first following a scoreless
first half, with John Spirk lofting a corner kick the Eric Dyson
fielded and sent into the net. Region 143 evened the score on a
penalty kick in the fourth period.
Keeper Mitchell Weeks, James Hensley, Brian Tran, Connor Noyes and
Val Bertignoli anchored the defense and Sam Farnsworth, Greg Howland
and Carlos Puerto controlled the mid-field for Arsenal.
GIRLS’
Region 117 Lightning Bolts 5, Patriots 3
Erika Longoria scored three goals to lead the Lightning Bolts in
Under-12 Division play.
One of Longoria’s goals came off a corner kick by Jessica Ross.
Melody Sainz and Stephanie Schroeder each scored once to complete
the Lightning Bolts scoring.
Camille Canales and Francine Sandoval aided the Lightning Bolts
offense.
Ashley Ashurst made several saves in goal and was backed by the
defensive efforts of Kelsey Stewart, Makayla Alexander, Mahrria
Rivera, Kayci Rezac, Wendy Edman and Miranda Sosa.
Kool Kickers 2, Bombers 2
Hanna Senese scored twice in the opening quarter to lead the Kool
Kickers in an Under-10 match played at Gisler School.
Kim Choto scored in the third period and Emily Walling netted a
goal with just under two minutes to play in the match to lift the
Bombers into the tie.
Quick Chicks 5, Freedom Fighters 0
Haley Townsend scored two goals, single goals went to Kimberly
Kurdziel, Alison Hensley and Lisa Fleck, Kristy Verone had an assist
from her wing position and Pouneh Radparvar keyed the play at
mid-field to lead the Quick Chicks in a Under-12 Division match.
The shutout was made possible through the play of Alex Long,
Karlee Hodgman, Jessica Parker, Braelyn Snook, Kailey Ivers and
Alexandra Lawrence.
Region 55
Breakaways 7, Panthers 0
Kyleigh Kesler and Natalie Ortiz paced a balanced Breakaways
scoring attack that also featured single goals by Sara Weismann,
Sloan Turner and Monica Calderon.
Christina Thien protected the net for two periods and Weismann and
Ortiz each tended goal for one period as the Breakaways recorded
their third consecutive shutout to run their record to 3-0.
They have outscored their three opponents, 14-0.
Coast Soccer League
Lightning 3, Palmdale 0
The Lightning moved into first place in the Coast Soccer League
last weekend by shutting out Palmdale in Under-17 Division Silver
play.
Goalkeeper Gena Johnson notched the shutout victory as the
Lightning improved to 3-1 overall.
Janet Peterson scored two goals, Lauren Stimmler scored once and
had one assist and Jill Hribar collected an assist.
Bridget Beetler, Megan Bell, Tara Fox, Nikki Freiborg, Danae
Lucas, Caitlin McGinnis, Hilary Pohlman, Lindsey Rodgers, Beth
Santiago, Samantha Serrano, Courtney Taniguchi and Krista Thompson
also contributed to the triumph.
