NEWPORT BEACH -- A 47-year-old Newport Beach resident died Sunday
in Kern County after the jet boat he was racing got out of control
and flipped over, officials said.
Dale Wesley Anderson was participating in a race at Lake Ming when
his boat suddenly became airborne and overturned, said officials at
the Kern County Coroner’s office.
Anderson took up racing as a hobby after he retired about two
years ago, said his son, Brett Anderson, who raced with dad. The two
had formed a father-son team Sunday.
“He’s always had a need for speed,” Brett Anderson said.
His father took up boat racing recently, but raced go karts for
several years before that, he added.
“He loved life and always did what he wanted,” Anderson said of
his father. “He had no enemies. He had a big smile on his face. He’d
do anything for anyone.”
Anderson was also a “guy you can count on,” said Judy Cariker, who
has known him for more than 17 years.
“He was always there for you,” she said. “Everybody loves him.”
Dale Anderson had lived with his family in Newport Beach for about
nine years. He owned a circuit board company and retired from the
business about two years ago. He is survived by his wife Vicki, sons
Brett and Trevor and stepdaughter Rachel.
