Newport Boulevard could close again
A broken water main on Newport Boulevard could cause lanes to be
closed through part of Friday, officials announced Tuesday.
Workers will close portions of the intersection at 32nd Street at
7 a.m. Thursday. Closures will continue throughout Thursday and
possibly into Friday. Officials said that one lane of traffic will be
kept open to accommodate northbound and southbound traffic on Newport
Boulevard, but 32nd will be closed between Balboa Boulevard and
Lafayette Avenue.
To avoid the worst traffic, drivers approaching from Huntington
Beach on Coast Highway should take Balboa Boulevard to 28th Street
and then turn left onto 28th Street to get to Newport Boulevard.
Lanes will be open for Lido Isle residents to get to their homes,
though there may be long delays.
The underground water pipe broke Friday, temporarily closing down
Newport Boulevard and causing extensive damage and some water outages
in the immediate area.
