Overman first at UCI
to get Hope award
UC Irvine Distinguished Professor of Chemistry Larry Overman is
the first person in the college’s history to be awarded the Arthur C.
Hope Award by the American Chemical Society.
The Cope award is one of the most significant awards given in the
field of chemistry. Past recipients have included Nobel Prize winners
and some of the leading scientists of the past 50 years.
The award will be presented in Sept. at the 226th American
Chemical Society National Meeting in New York.
The honor consists of a gold medallion, a certificate, a cash
reward of $25,000 and an unrestricted grant-in-aid of $150,000 in
support of research efforts.
Overman is among the most honored organic chemists in the United
States. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, has won
more than 25 distinguished awards and fellowships.
