Fire damages Eastbluff home
Newport Beach fire officials say an electrical problem sparked a
fire Monday afternoon that caused mostly smoke damage to the second
floor of a $1-million Eastbluff home.
The 3:05 p.m. blaze started in the computer room of a
4,000-square-foot house in the 2100 block of Arbutus Street, said
Newport Beach Fire Capt. John Blauer. Within a half-hour, about 17
firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Though a 15-year-old boy was home at the time, he was evacuated
safely. The family’s cat, Skittles, also was removed once he was
found behind a downstairs sofa, Blauer said.
The heavy smoke forced firefighters to cut through the home’s
attic, where additional flames were found, and open second-story
windows, Blauer said. The computer room suffered major fire damage,
while the rest of the second floor, which consisted of three other
rooms, received smoke damage.
Overall damage has yet to be estimated.
