Storm drains being fit with filters
Crews are now installing filters in West Newport Beach storm drains
that they hope will take yet another bite out of water-quality problems.
The devices, which look like big screens at gutter openings, are
called “storm water inlet guards.†Less visible will be filters placed
inside some storm-drain catch basins.
A total of 65 locations in the area will get some device to help keep
garbage and other debris out of the bay and ocean. The work is part of a
citywide effort to improve water quality funded by the state’s Clean
Water Initiative. Information: (949) 644-3000.
