With Houston Hill and Ryan Little on top of their games, and a sharp

defensive unit backing the duo, Huntington Valley defeated Fountain

Valley, 5-1, Monday night in a battle of the Yankees.

The victory in the Area 1 Minor A Division semifinal game at Mile

Square Park in Fountain Valley puts Huntington Valley into this week’s

Minor A title game against Seaview No. 1.

The Seaview Cubs routed host Costa Mesa American No. 1, 12-0, in the

Area 2 final also Monday.

Seaview has rolled in its first three tournament games and has

outscored those opponents, 34-6.

Should Huntington Valley defeat Seaview in the championship game, it

would give the league its second straight District 62 Minor A title.

Hill and Little split time on the mound and combined on a one-hitter.

Hill threw the first three innings. The right-hander struck out six

and walked two without allowing a hit.

Little finished off Fountain Valley with a three inning stint that

included four strikeouts and one hit.

Huntington Valley’s defense was guilty of just one error.

“We won this game with great pitching, great defense and timely

hitting,†said Huntington Valley coach Greg Hill. “Our guys did a

terrific job.â€

Hill and Little also had singles for a Huntington Valley offense that

was led by cleanup hitter Jake Porter.

Porter went two for three and finished with three RBI to lead the

Yankees, who improved to 21-2 overall.

Huntington Valley took command with a three-run first inning, then

added two more runs in the third for a 5-0 lead.
