Junior golf: Sherman gets third

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA - This time, Nick Sherman actually got to
complete his rounds at the par-72 golf course at Tijeras Creek Golf Club.
And the soon-to-be CdM senior golfer made the most of it, shooting a
two-day 10-over-par 154 to finish third in the boys 15-18 division at the
Junior Amateur Golf Scholars Marty LaRoche Junior Invitational, completed
Tuesday.
Sherman and other golfers were evacuated off the course May 13 during
the CIF Southern Section Individual Tournament, due to a nearby fire.
That tournament was rescheduled for later that week at Coto de Caza Golf
and Racquet Club.
CdM’s Tim Frohling (164) and Newport Coast resident Zach Rabinovich
(164) tied for ninth, while Costa Mesa’s Michael Benvenuti (173) was 13th
in the boys 15-18 division.
Carl Smith IV, from Laguna Beach, shot 3-under 141 to finish first by
two strokes in the boys 15-18 division.
Laguna Niguel’s Andy Kim shot 8-over 152 to win by 12 strokes in the
boys 13-14 division and Alexis Etow from Lake Forest carded a 161 for a
one-shot win in the girls division.
