Kevin Hannon won a $25,000 boat at the Newport In-Water Boat Show on
Sunday. The Anaheim resident was one of 10 contestants who partook in the
Catch-A-Boat Challenge at the 29th annual boat show.
Contestants in the contest, which began May 1, were required to stand
for 24 hours a day while they held a fishing line hooked up to the boat.
The last one standing would be awarded the boat.
However, at the end of the four-day contest at noon on Sunday, four
remained standing. So at 1 p.m. Sunday, organizers held an hourlong
casting contest for accuracy to pare down the final four.
Hannon won that contest and took home the 21-foot Triumph boat. John
Hennessy of San Pedro finished second, getting $1,000; Brian Olmstead of
Santa Maria took third-place and $750; and Jared Wagner of Menifee
garnered fourth place and took home $500.
